Mattie joins Kaplan & Grady following clerkships with the Hon. Mark R. Hornak, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the Hon. Karen Nelson Moore of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mattie graduated from Harvard Law School, cum laude, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review.  While at Harvard, Mattie worked as a student attorney with the Prison Legal Assistance Project, through which she defended incarcerated individuals against alleged disciplinary infractions, and with Harvard’s Criminal Justice Institute, through which she defended indigent individuals in Massachusetts state court.  While in law school, Mattie also completed internships with state juvenile, state appellate, and federal public defender services.  

Prior to law school, Mattie worked as a Project Assistant at a large, Boston-based law firm where she assisted the firm’s commercial litigation and pro bono efforts, including asylum and domestic violence cases. She also ran the firm’s civil appellate clinic through which indigent individuals could receive no-cost legal advice and services in their civil appeals. Mattie graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University where she received a B.A. in Government, English, and French.
